Welcome to PAA 2021!

We have been looking forward to this meeting for a long time, and we are very excited about the exchanges that will take place over these 3 1/2 days. While we wish we could all be in St. Louis together, we are very happy to see you from the safety of our screens. We are especially thrilled that many students and many international population scholars are participating in this year’s meeting – some for the first time. We offer you a sincere welcome to PAA and are thrilled that your energy, ideas, and contributions are part of our community. Thank you for your participation; we hope you will find this year’s annual meeting to be a valuable experience.

The creation of this year’s program and virtual meeting truly required a village of dedicated people who, together, worked on planning, re-thinking, and experimenting in a context we were all unfamiliar with. Here, we offer a sincere thank-you to the many people who assisted in this effort. Most importantly, thank you to the membership for your commitment to PAA, your submission of papers and posters, your help in organizing sessions, and your ongoing work as population scientists in producing the research that drives our field. Our work this year putting together the meeting, as always, depended on our fellow members, including our terrific Program Committee. The PAA staff has likewise been fabulous in re-imagining our annual meeting as a virtual event, and developing and testing new tools and technologies. It has taken a tremendous amount of work, dedication, and vision on the part of PAA’s small staff to make it work, and we are truly grateful.

We hope you find this very unique virtual meeting enjoyable and enriching. Beyond that, we cannot wait to see everyone in-person at PAA 2022 in Atlanta (April 6-9). Please mark your calendars!
